The Strange Case of Origami Yoda

Dwight is the weirdest kid in the 6th grade. like once the gym teacher asked him to go to the equipment locker to get a dodge ball. He didn't come back so she sent Lance to look for him and Lance found him beating on the door to the locker shouting "Squirrels! come save me!" when Lance opened the door for him, Dwight goes, "Oh, I thought it opened the other way. Another time a Native American visited their school to tell them about Native Americans. When he was finished Dwight asked, "What did you wear for underwear before Columbus brought regular underwear?" So it wasn't a surprise when he started wearing a little origami Yoda finger puppet all the time. At first everyone thought it was just weird Dwight but after the PTA fun night everyone asked origami Yoda advice. Here is what happened: Tommy and his friends where daring each other to go ask a girl to dance. Finally Kellen got Tommy to go ask Hannah to dance. When Tommy was walking over to her Dwight blocked his way "Better ask Origami Yoda first" "go away" said Tommy. Dwight shoved the little puppet in his face "Ask origami Yoda" "Fine" said Tommy."Whats your advice" "I don't have any advice" said Dwight but Yoda does." Then in he started wiggling the puppet and in this this high, weird, squeaky voice he says "Rush in fools do" "Whats that supposed to mean!" then Tommy's friend says "Yoda always mixes up  his words he probably meant Fools are in a rush. a second later a seventh grader grabs Hannah and kisses her. Tommy has put together a file of all the story's about origami Yoda. If you want to find out if he is real or, as Harvey says "A green Paper wad" then read The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger.

Dear Dumb Diary: Lets pertend it never happened

Jamie Kelly is in middle school and she has made a diary about all her problems. In this book, Jamie is jealous of this girl named Angeline. Angeline is perfect in every way. Jamie thinks that she will never be friends with Angeline, but when Jamie gets a hold of Angeline's permanent record, everything changes. This is what the first page in her Diary says:

Dear Whoever Is reading My dumb Diary,

Are you sure your supposed to be reading somebody else's diary? Maybe I told you that you could so that's Okay. But if your Angeline, I did NOT give you permission, so stop it. If you are my parent, then YES, I know that I am not allowed to call people idiots and fools and goons and halfwits and pinheads and all that, but this is a diary, and I didn't actually "call" them anything. I wrote it. And if you punish me for it, then I will know that you read my diary, which I am not giving you the permission to do. Now by the power vested in me, I do promise that everything in this diary is true or, at least, as true as I think it needs to be.

Walter The Story of a Rat

This book is about Walter (a rat) and Amanda Pomeroy (an old lady). Walter doesn't understand why everyone hates him. Walter really wants to make friends with Miss Pomeroy but is not sure how. Every night Walter sneaks into the library and takes one of her books to read but he always returns them before Miss Pomeroy wakes up. Walter is a very smart rat he knows how to read and write but he doesn't consider taking food from her kitchen and reading all her books stealing after all he always returns her books. This is one of my favorite quotes - it's sweet and sad:

From the time he was an adolescent, humans had thrown stones at Walter, shot guns at him, and repeatedly tried to poison him with some strange-smelling food, which he had been wise enough to avoid. They had kicked at him, screamed at him, and once - at the very sight of him - a young woman had fainted. Walter had never been able to understand the horror he and his relatives aroused in humans. These, after all, were the same people who kept hamsters and guinea pigs as pets. The same children who loved white mice. These were the people who fed squirrels in the park and walked tiny dogs on leashes. As far as Walter was concerned, animals were animals - all of them equally important.
If you like sweet books about animals then you should really read this one. And if you want to learn a little bit about rats, you will learn a bit here and here.
